"London Tigers was the first team I trained with. From junior level as an 8 year old to semi-professional level, London Tigers helped me develop into what I am today, learning discipline, developing technique and honing my skills with some really great coaches like Tarik. London Tigers have given me many opportunities and empowered me to move on and now play for Hayes & Yeading in the Conference Premier League."
Mohammed B - Aged 18

For millennia, sports has remained the vehicle through which people all over the world come together; differences between races and religions are put aside as people compete as individuals and teams on a level playing field, while millions look on enraptured. It is the engagement and unification power of sport that makes it one of London Tigers’ key delivery areas.

London Tigers seeks to provide pathways for our beneficiaries to progress from grassroots to professional competition. There are also those who simply enjoy taking part in sport at an amateur level and we aim to deliver sports activities that are accessible to local people, taking into account location, cost implications to beneficiaries, language barriers and cultural/religious sensitivities.

By far the biggest sport London Tigers caters for is football; we currently have over twenty London Tigers football teams based in London, Birmingham and Oldham, ranging from under 8’s to our semiprofessional team, London Tigers FC, who play in the Molten Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division and have competed in the FA Vase and the FA Cup. We have close ties with professional football clubs both in the UK and abroad, ensuring that players are able to work their way through the ranks from under-8 to professional level. We have also achieved the FA Charter Standard.

London Tigers football teams take part in competitions up and down the country and we are very proud of their success, for example London Tigers FC has won the Tower Hamlets’ Safer Neighbourhoods Tournament four years in a row (2007-2011). The success of London Tigers’ football teams is due in part to the talent and dedication of the players, but also to the highly skilled and qualified coaches, managers and other back-office staff, many of whom are volunteers.

London Tigers also run several leagues and annual competitions, such as the annual UK Asian Community Cup, a national tournament aimed at promoting Asian footballing talent and tackling racism. The tournament was founded in partnership with Chelsea FC and typically attracts over 600 individual competitors and spectators representing over 25 nationalities, with the final being played at a high profile football stadium. The tournament attracts excellent media attention, with past tournaments having been covered by Sky Sports News, London Tonight, Radio 5 Live, BBC Asian Network and others.

Cricket is another popular sport and London Tigers delivers cricket sessions in schools and local communities across London as well as running local cricket leagues. In addition we organise high-profile national and international tournaments ranging from 6-a-side to 11-a-side T20 matches with the objective of raising funds to sustain the delivery of local activities. Events such as the London 6’s were held in partnership with Sky Sports,
MCC and other private sponsors and were featured on Sky Sports during the England v India Oval Test Match (August 2011). Shakib al-Hasan and Mohammed Ashraful, both former Captains of the Bangladeshi National Cricket Team, are dedicated ambassadors of London Tigers.

London Tigers also caters for a wide variety of other sports, such as aerobics, badminton, basketball and martial arts. Many of our activities attract female participants and increasing female participation and provision is one of our top priorities.
