VOLUNTEER AND WORK PLACEMENT
Volunteers are a key part of the London Tigers Family.  We have been successful in motivating and encouraging local people of all ages and nationalities to become volunteers in our activities over the years. Many have benefited from accredited training and others have gained valuable experience enabling them to move on professionally and personally.  This project enables young people to become active members of the community and making a positive contribution to society.

Furthermore, each year we take on a number of young people from local schools and colleges on work experience.  Many of them are interested in sports and want to get into the field.  With us they are able to gain some skills working in our office during the day and in the evening they help our sports coach deliver various sports activities.  This way they are able to learn various office skills as well as sports coaching techniques.

VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITIES:

·
Sports Coaches/Assistant Coaches (football, cricket, badminton and other sports)
·      Administration Assistants/Office based work
·      Youth Workers/Assistant Youth Workers (boys/girls)
·      Photographers
·      Aspiring Journalists to write copy for local Newspapers
·      Events Staff
·      Ladies Activities (Henna, Sports, Arts, Away-Days)

VOLUNTEER DEVELOPMENT
We try to help our volunteers in their personal and professional development as well as give them an enjoyable environment to work in:·      Relevant Training where required (ie: FA Coaching training, Cricket Coaching Training, Media Skills Training)
·      Travel Expenses and Lunch Expenses for those volunteers working longer hours
·      A dedicated member of staff to guide you and help you
·      A multi-national, welcoming environment to work in

THE VOLUNTEERS

YUSUF - ADMIN ASSISTANT
Yusuf initially came to London Tigers for a month in Summer 2008 to gain admin experience before going to University to study Business.  He now comes once a week to help us on a Members Database Project which he created along with another staff member.

ELIAS - FOOTBALL COACH
As a child, Elias was part of London Tigers Football.  As an Adult he gives back to London Tigers by running his own programmes within the training sessions.  He has completed his FA Football Coaching Level 1.

ASMAE - EVENTS STEWARD
Asmae comes down to London Tigers events such as the 2008 Awards Ceremony at the Hilton Metropole, Edgware Road, to volunteer her time and help us run things smoothly.

This year she was on the door, checking tickets and making sure our VIPS were seen to their tables.

Asmae is also a medal-winning Tae-Kwando martial artist.  She is a member of the London Tigers Women’s Tae-kwando group and has taken part in International Tournaments.

OMAR - WORK EXPEREINCE STUDENT FROM WESTMINSTER ACADEMY
Omar came to London Tigers on work experience.  He came to the office 1 a weeks over a period of 3 months.  However, what omar enjoyed most was helping to organise events.   He was very please to help us during the Annual UK Asian Community Cup Football Festival 2009, where he had the opportunity to go to Stamford Bridge where the final were held.  He also helped us during the Gaza100 World Record breaking Relay Race organised by IF Charity and run by London Tigers.

LEE EMMANUEL - WORK EXPERIENCE STUDENT FROM CITY OF WESTMINSTER COLLEGE / PRINCES TRUST
Lee came to London Tigers for a week to gain some sports coaching experience.  He helped us deliver some sports activities.  Lee writes:

I gained valuable experience through delivering sports coaching sessions to the young children from the schools linked to the London Tigers.

Working with the friendly staff, I learn some helpful tips on how to coach and interact with the year 3 and 4 pupils.

In addition, after the work placement I went for football trials for the London Tigers.  I made it through to the London Tigers reserve team and I am very excited to start training and working with the association again.”

Apart from these individuals we had a number of other dedicated volunteers and work placement people coming to London Tigers.  We would like to thank them for their valuable work and support.  We hope that they have gained some valuable experience by workring with London Tigers.
