London Tigers helping to create a Safer Community

London Tigers have used sports as a tool to attract young people from different backgrounds and integrate them using football. They have created pathways and opportunities for young people to get involved in their community by becoming qualified sports coaches and volunteers.

The leadership and volunteer programme ensures that young people give back to the community and become actively engaged and support positive activities. They have had over 10 people qualified in first aid, child protection and coaching.

Role Models

Alhad Mohamed 20 years old from Newbury Park and Tareque Ahmed 19 from Loxford are two of the young people to take advantage of this project, they are now supporting the delivery of community sports sessions aimed at providing an alternative for young people to hanging around on the streets. Alhad and Tareque are now an inspiration and role model to their peers as well as leaders in the community.

Key highlights of this project include a community cohesion festival that took place at Stamford Bridge home of Chelsea Football Club, an outing outside Redbridge to integrate Redbridge residents with other communities and a community workshop to recognize the needs and issues of young people of Redbridge.

Best news of all in their first summer as a football team they took part in three local, regional and national tournaments in Redbridge, Westminster and Ipswich, they won the Westminster tournament and came runners up in Ipswich.

Currently we are offering the following activities:

Football Session - Wednesday, 5:30pm to 7:00pm at Loxford Park, Loxford Lane(currently looking for alternative indoor venue for Winter)

London Tigers also have had a very busy and successful summer program and lead the Street Cricket during the London Week of Peace. (Sunday 20 -Sunday 27 September 2009.)

The TEETA project is driven by local young Redbridge residents who are now community leaders and sport coaches involved in positive activities and have just delivered the Community EID Football Cup at Loxford Park (Sunday 29th November 2009)

Abdus Hamid, Trustee of London Tigers and a Redbridge resident say’s:

“We aim to create a melting pot where we can get the multinational communities in Redbridge working together for a safer and cohesive place to live”.
