Asian Premier League Launch Cup Tournament

On Sunday 18th October 2009, London Tigers held their inaugural Cup Tournament to launch their latest project, the Asian Premier Football League, the only Asian Football League in London.  The Cup Tournament was held at Wanstead Flats in East London.

The Tournament was supporting the national Kick-It Out One Game One Community campaign. A total of 9 teams took part in the one day tournament with participants from 20 different nationalities as the tournament was open for all communities.

The 4 Semi-Finalists that qualified from the group stages were PSG, West End, London Tigers and Forest Gate. Forest Gate fought West End, in a strong game that saw 5 goals, with Forest Gate emerging victorious with a 3-2 win. The game with London Tigers and PSG, was the surprise of the tournament. With neither teams scoring and finishing 0-0. The game then went into a long penalty shootout well into sudden death with 14 penalties each. London Tigers finally emerged as the victorious team.

The final between London Tigers and Forest Gate was again a tough game, with both teams battling hard to win. In the end London Tigers had lost out to Forest Gate by 1-0 defeat. Needless to say Forest Gate were overjoyed with their win and walking away with the cup.

Mesba Ahmed CEO of London Tigers says:

“We are thrilled by starting this new league, we will not only provide a platform for new teams with the experience of running a club in a league, but also support them with coaches and player developments and fundraising for their club”.

“We want to guide pathways of opportunities for the Asian community in football and support teams to reach their highest potential and beyond”
