In Partnership with Chelsea FC
In 2003 London Tigers held the first annual UK Asian Community Football Festival Cup in partnership with Chelsea Football Club, sponsored by Western Union and others. The final of the football festival was played at Stamford Bridge Stadium (Chelsea Football Club).
Chelsea FC and London Tigers were the first organisations in London working together promoting Asians grass root talents to other professional clubs, media and public eye. This festival created a pathway for Asians towards mainstream of football and provided a platform for amateur Asian teams to display local talented players to others. Also this gave them an opportunity to play in a premier league stadium. This event was on Television (Sky Sports News, London Tonight, and Zee TV) and on many Radio stations Such As BBC Asian Network, Radio Five Live, Big Blue etc. The events’ chief Guest was Chelsea FC Chairman Ken Bates, also in attendance were Charles Clarke MP Secretary of State for Education, Tony Banks MP former Sports Minister, Robert Evans MEP, Garth Crooks OBE BBC Commentator and other Councillors and cabinet members of Westminster, Camden and Brent.
We had participants from over 15 nationalities with an attendance of over 600 including players and spectators.
