Statement from LBHF and RBKC Prevent Advisory Group

Statement from the London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham and The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea Prevent Advisory Group

20 June 2017

We, the community and faith groups that constitute the London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham and Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea Prevent Advisory Group (PAG), condemn the barbaric terrorist attack that took place in the early hours of Monday 19 June, where an individual targeted worshippers by the Muslim Welfare Centre in Finsbury Park.

We send our sincere condolences and prayers to the family of the innocent victim who died and to all those caught up in this act of terror. As always, our doors are open to all and we will reassure and help our local communities to recover quickly and positively.

This was not only an attack against people going about their daily lives, practising their faith, but was an attack that hoped to divide us and target our values. This was an act that wanted to challenge our values of freedom of speech, the freedom to live as we choose, and the freedom to practice one’s religion in peace. We will not let this happen.

We will never be divided by acts of terror. We are proud to live in London and to be part of the United Kingdom; its values, its people, its courageous emergency services. We will stay united and we will be stronger for it.
So let us not give in to hate and instead help those affected, condemn this senseless and all similar attacks, and work with one another to preserve our society that we all belong to here in London and the United Kingdom.
